Q: What does it take to be successful in the field of Heating & Cooling Repair (HVACR)?
A: A lot of hard work and schooling. While some of the work might seem intuitive, you can’t just jump in, you need proper training. You also need to not be afraid of math and science. One of the reasons I choose this field is that it’s challenging and you will always be learning new things. There are always new and complex systems that you need to be familiar with.
Q: What is your job description?
A: HVAC Installer/Service Tech: I install, maintain, and repair heating and cooling systems.
Q: How did you choose HVAC repair as your occupation?
A: Well I went back to school to get my GED after being out of high school for 10 years. I had quite some time to make up so I wanted to enter an industry that I’d enjoy and be confident in my ability to succeed. I knew I was mechanically inclined so I chose HVAC, especially since it’s a growing industry.
Q: What is your dream job?
A: To be doing what I am doing. I’m happy right where I’m at. I’d just like to learn more, advance, and make a lot more money at it!
Q: What real world experience did you get during school?
A: I had too much real world experience during high school and that’s why I ended up out of school. After some time I realized I needed to further pursue my education. When the time was right I went back to school and I was thrilled that I did. I began working once I’d built up a sizeable skill set.
Q: What advice can you offer to students?
A: No matter how stressful or boring it may be finish your schooling before you have too many other things put on your plate. Don’t try to grow up so fast. I can’t emphasize enough how important a college education is. I really wish someone had emphasized this to me when I was your age.
