Why does this association do more to advocate nursing assistants. There so many commercials that give light to the job done by nurses but none u00a0for nursing assistants. I have been a nursing assistant since 1996. I have worked in a nursing home, a couple of home health agencies and now I am employed at a hospital. There is a national nurses week and a secretaries week but we get no recognition at all. Also there is limited or no resources to help in advancement or to aid in getting more pay for the job that we do which entails much more than emptying bedpans and wiping noses. Where I work , we draw blood , do EKGs , asssit in physical and occupational therapy, assist doctors in exams , perform a wide range of invasive procedures and offer psychological support of patients and their families , grief counseling , and information on organizations and services that are available.
