I understand that the student needs to pass examinations to become licensed in the state in which he/she wants to work in. My question is: does the student need to go to school in that state or can he/she study in one state and then test in a different state? For example, if I want to study in Michigan but work in California – is that possible?

    Thank you

To become a dental hygienist, you will need to pass both a national exam and the individual state exam for the state in which you wish to practice. So if you are studying in Michigan but want to work in California, you will need to take the national exam, and then the pass the state or regional exam. These steps are listed in more detail at http://www.adha.org/careerinfo/licensure.htm.
