The Department of Homeland Security has a vital mission: to secure the nation from the many threats we face. This requires the dedication of more than 230,000 employees in jobs that range from aviation and border security to emergency response, from cybersecurity analyst to chemical facility inspector. Our duties are wide-ranging, but our goal is clear – keeping America safe.

Degree and Program Information for a Homeland Security Career
Educational requirements will of course depend on the particular role within the Department of Homeland Security, but a Bachelor’s degree is a safe baseline. (Some positions, such as Border Patrol Agents, accept qualifying experience as a substitute for college training.) Other positions, such as some of those held by the tens of thousands of chemists who work for the department, may require graduate degrees.
