Computer application developers begin their work by finding out what regular users need their computers to do. Can a word processor be more powerful? Is there a program that will let me store all my passwords in a secure location? What do I use to watch stream movies from my laptop to my television?

Once the computer application developer decides upon a project, he will try to anticipate the needs of the end user. Since most users are not as technologically savvy as he is, he will have to talk with other people or put himself in the shoes of someone who just needs it to work. Once the program is written, the program gets tested by the average user who, through use and misuse, may discover bugs and awkward interfaces. After testing and possible revisions, the application developer will release his project to the wider public, to be used…until something even better comes along!

Like other people who work with computer design, computer application developers often have at least an Associate’s degree if not a Bachelor’s degree in some computer-related field.
