myFootpath and National Student Clearinghouse to Reengage More than 39 Million Students with Some College, No Credential CHICAGO, IL and HERNDON, VA – September 29, 2022 – More than 39 million Americans have some college, but no credential, according to the National Student Clearinghouse Research Center. The “some college, no credential” population is up 3.1 million from nearly 36 million previously reported in 2019. The National Student Clearinghouse and myFootpath are partnering to bring these students back to college and help them earn a credential. Under this partnership, myFootpath will bring the Clearinghouse’s StudentTracker Premium Service to colleges and universities, at no charge

The National Digital Roundtable and myFootpath convened a group of experts to discuss successful reengagement strategies. This whitepaper highlights different tactics leading universities are using to reengage, reenroll, and rejuvenate stop-out students.

The steady growth in the six-year college completion rate started to slow down for full-time starters in fall 2014, and the rate declined notably for part-time starters. Full-time starters at community colleges earned a credential at the highest rate in six years (46.5% by year six), whereas the stop out rate increased sharply for their part-time counterparts from a year ago. Enrollment continues to decline in fall 2022. In the 2020-21 academic year, the total number of undergraduate credential earners increased by 1.1 percent, or 39,000 students, to 3.7 million graduates. The National Student Clearinghouse Research Center reports on the shifting transfer landscape during COVID-19 in a rapid response report series titled COVID-19 TRANSFER, MOBILITY, AND PROGRESS. The Some College, No Credential (SCNC) report series seeks to understand the educational trajectories of millions of U.S. adults who left postsecondary education without receiving a postsecondary credential and are no longer enrolled.
